Visiting cards, merit certificates to boost morale of police

Kanpur, Feb 26 - In order boost the morale of police and to bridge the communication gap between common people and the enforcers of law, Kanpur police has announced a slew of measures such as distributing visiting cards of police personnel and giving them certificates of merit.
"SHOs of all 45 police stations in the city and about 600 police inspectors and 3,500 constables attached with them have been asked to get their visiting cards, with details of their official as well as personal mobile numbers, printed and to distribute them among common people under the specified limits of the police stations," Kanpur DIG Rajesh Rai said.
"The idea is that the common people and the police should have direct communication between them," he said.
He said the police personnel should distribute their visiting cards to common people living in the vicinity of the place of crime as it will encourage them to tell police about any information at their disposal regarding the crime and they can even chose to be incognito.
The DIG has also announced cash rewards for policemen attached to the respective police station if they crack up a particular criminal case like robbery or murder at the earliest.
Rai said he has already started distributing ''certificates of merit'' and cash rewards to police stations where all necessary obligations are found complied with during surprise checks.
