Bangalore, Feb 26: With the India vs England World Cup tie just around the corner, the nefarious activity of betting has reared its ugly head. On Saturday morning, local police arrested three person connected with a multi-lakh betting racket. Vinod, Vipul and Fighter Ravi were taken in during the bust on their hide-out at Vailikaval locality. Police also recovered Rs 20 lakh in cash, 1 revolver along with 12 live bullets, 4 laptops and 25 mobile phones.
In a press conference last week, City Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari said that the police would be cracking down on all such illicit activity during the World Cup and appealed to the public to notify the police on any related information they might come by. Home Minsiter R Ashok, had earlier announced an esimate that the betting industry in Bangalore functions to the tune of Rs 50 Crore.
The trio will be formally charged on Monday and are currently under interrogation with the cops pressurising them to spill the beans about the other parties involved in their racket. Thye are believed to have been taking bets on India's upcoming Group B match again England.This news comes close on the heels of another bust which took place on Wednesday. A total of 6 persons were held in that raid, all incidentally, students. They were reportedly taking bets on the Kenya vs Pakistan match. A cash amount of Rs 1,800 was recovered from the sextet as well as one laptop and one mobile phone. The bust occurred in the vicinity of the Kumaraswamy Layout Police Station.
