Bangalore, Feb 26: The
cricketing frenzy surrounding the commencement of the
World Cup 2011, got to the fans and local police in Bangalore on Thursday, Feb 24. There was a mad rush for tickets to the much-anticipated India Vs
England match as fans camped outside ticket booths through a whole night only to be rudely dispersed by men in khaki the following morning.
The kerfuffle that erupted apparently seems to have irked a third party - the rain gods. It may be the end of winter and safely past South India's second monsoon, precisely the reason why the World Cup was scheduled for this time of year. But that hasn't kept the rain deities from remaining silent. Over the past couple of days they have cried over the ill-sentiment and resentment that has spread through the IT city. In the process, it's the fans themselves whose spirits have been dampened as the threat of a wet evening on Feb 27th evening (when India takes on England) looms large. That certainly seems to be the threat of the trend as showers have washed out the city intermittently since Thursday.
As though all their suffering at waiting in queues, being beaten up by police and then eventually getting to buy tickets from a rapidly-depleting stock wasn't enough bad karma. Now the fans have to entertain the possibility of their match being washed out as well. "Rain, rain go away, India-England want to play!"
