Bangalore, Feb 25: If dashing Indian opener Virender Sehwag has nerves of steel, he also apparently possesses bones of titanium! That's because even after receiving a painful blow to his ribs during a practice session on Friday, he has been declared fit to play in India's crucial World Cup tie against England on Sunday. He received the blow off a bouncer from Zaheer Khan, forcing him to quite practice for the day and seek treatment. But his condition has improved since then.
Sehwag was instrumental in setting up his team's victory, blazing a 175 off 140 balls with the help of five sixes and 14 fours. So far in one-day matches, Sehwag has scored 7,555 runs in 229 one-day internationals.
News of Sehwag's injury came on the same day that Yuvraj's hand was reported sore from a rap on the knuckes by a delivery from Sreesanth. Team India was also sweating on an injury worry of Sachin Tendulkar's as he underwent an MRI scan on his knee. But no alarm bells were raised there too and he is also fit to play Suinday's game.
"A thorough examination has been done and a scan is not required. There is no major worry and he is fit enough to play," Indian team manager Ranjib Biswal said.India who will be looking to consolidate their standing in Group B with a win over England, started off their World Cup campaign on a victorious note, trouncing Bangladesh by 87 runs.
