Invent with Nokia invites you to squeeze your creative juice for money

Invent with Nokia invites you to squeeze your creative juice for money
Invent with Nokia has just been launched by Espoo as an invitation to everyone across the world to help the company with innovative ideas. The best ideas who get recognition in the form of a patent will get financial reward, which will grow further if a proposed idea is greeted warmly by Nokia users. The Finns are calling for ideas and concepts not just for new phones, but also a “radical new feature or service.”

The first step towards the financial reward is submitting non-confidential information about the idea on Nokia’s newly launched Invent with Nokia website. Most importantly, the rest of the information should be perfectly secure. If your idea passes through the inevitable flood of propositions you'll also be inducted into “a hall of fame.”

As good as it all sounds, another view at the matter suggests that Nokia could be struggling with ideas to differentiate in the Windows Phone world where it’s taking its baby steps. Latest rumor on the street pointed at four WP7 devices being developed by the Finns, and some of them seemed to look more like a copy of existing handsets like the N8 or the business E-series than something groundbreakingly new. What in your opinion could differentiate Espoo’s handsets? Sound off in the comments after you see Nokia’s main man Stephen Elop explain all the details about Innovate with Nokia in the video below.

Dell Streak Pro 10" Android tablet might appear with LTE connectivity on AT&T

Dell Streak Pro 10

Some additional info about an upcoming Dell Streak Pro 10" Android tablet leaked, together with a few pictures.

The 10.1" LCD display carries resolution of 1280x800 pixels, and the slate runs Google's tablet Android Honeycomb, sporting the quickly becoming standard NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core chipset, clocked at 1GHz, together with 1GB of RAM. Dell's Stage 2.0 interface could be placed on top of Android Honeycomb.

The rear camera should be 5MP, and there is also a 2MP front-facing one for video calls. What might set it apart is a 24.1Wh battery, which is listed to hold the Dell Pro running for twelve hours, but we'll wait for Dell's official confirmation on that.

The Dell Streak Pro clocks in at 0.5" (12.9mm) thick, and weight is 1.59 pounds (720 grams), both about the average for a 10" Honeycomb slate, but not as slim as the reference Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. The back is supposedly made of brushed aluminum, and Dell should offer black, pink, blue and red skins to mix and match. A few versions are planned, based on the amount of internal memory - 16GB, 32GB or 64GB.

Except the color skins, Dell is reportedly planning accessories like a media dock and car charger, but it also eyes the business customers with a productivity dock and a folding cover with a built-in keyboard, as well as Exchange, VPN support and encryption. The source says the Dell Streak Pro is about to be released some time in June, and, interestingly enough, that Dell is planning to have a version supporting AT&T's upcoming LTE network.

LG P930 coming with 720x1280 screen, pixel density to outgrow Retina Display?

LG P930 coming with 720x1280 screen, pixel density to outgrow Retina Display?

The LG P930 might not see the light of day in the next couple of weeks or even months, but we can bet on the fact that LG has already started plotting its next-generation flagship and the LG P930 is one very possible candidate for that throne. Folks over at UnwiredView have uncovered the mystical Android-running LG P930 in an XML spec file posted on LG’s website, but given the 720x1280 resolution it seemed unlikely that this could be a phone. The P-series in the name however matches LG’s initial for its phone lineup whereas the only tablet of the company – the LG Optimus Pad – carries the V initial in front of its model number. But even more importantly, the ScreenSizeChar attribute in the XML file shows 15 characters fitting in a row and a total of 13 columns, which suggests a handset. A weird handset which puzzlingly seems to have a better resolution, while at the same time fitting less characters.

The puzzle got one step closer to being solved after news broke yesterday at screen-centric SID in LA that Toshiba is demonstrating a 4-inch 720x1280 pixel screen boasting a pixel density of the whopping 367ppi, a significant addition to the 326ppi on the iPhone 4.

In addition, the company has reportedly mentioned that the new technology will make it to retail this year. Bottomline? This could well be the next big thing from LG in line with the LG Optimus 3D P920, or what seems to be the predecessor of the yet unannounced device in terms of model numbers.

The rest of the information in the uncovered XML file brings nothing all that surprising – HSUPA/HSDPA as well as EDGE/GPRS support sounds pretty standard. The device will also come with 3 soft keys. The rest is pure speculation, but some sources are theorizing that this could well be the Google Nexus 3. We’d take this with a huge grain of salt, but we’re surely looking at something interesting, so stay tuned as more information is sure to come out soon.

RIM has sold 250,000 BlackBerry PlayBooks according to RBC

RIM has sold 250,000 BlackBerry PlayBooks according to RBC

According to Mike Abramsky, General Manager at RBC Capital Markets, RIM has sold 250,000 units of the BlackBerry PlayBook since its launch on April 19th, and could end up selling 500,000 tablets in its first quarter and 3 million units for the year. Abramsky says that this "steady" sales pace beats out the early sales figures of the Motorola XOOM and points out that returns have been nominal.

According to Abramsky, "Checks at 180 Best Buys show 14% of the 16GB sold out, 71% of the 32GB sold out, and 84% of the 64GB sold out; however, 32GB/64B stockouts appear allocation-related." And while no one expects the PlayBook to outperform the Apple iPad 2, the 7 inch tablet is off to a great start, getting high marks for multitasking and web browsing.
