What is forming to be a second major trend at MWC this year, besides the quad-core processors, is the excessive attention that is being given to design in the new Android phones from the major manufacturers.
This time around the new design paradigms don't only portray themselves in the high-end, high-margin handsets, but also trickle down to the mid-rangers and even the entry level phones of the new Android season.
LG has introduced the L-Style with a number of points it is paying more attention to - from premium materials through ergonomics, to the "floating mass" display that is closer to the surface of the phone. Sony came up with the Iconic Identity design, marked by the transparent illuminated thin strip at the bottom of its new Xperia phones, that emphasizes the display, serves as a notification bar with different colors, but is also pragmatic in housing the antenna for improved connectivity. And at the end of the day we had HTC, which has not only outdone itself outing its thinnest premium aluminum design with the One S, but also ventured away from its beaten path by using unibody polycarbonate for its one and only flagship the HTC One X.
