Motorola ATRIX 4G may get Gingerbread and UI facelift in July

It has been around for four months already, but it is still listed among the snappiest smartphones available today. We are talking about the Motorola ATRIX 4G – the Tegra 2-powered Android handset that made its debut back in February on AT&T's network.

The ATRIX 4G does pack some beefy hardware – a Tegra 2 chipset by NVIDIA and a whole gigabyte of RAM, but when it comes to the software that is in charge, there is still room for improvement. Luckily, word has it that the smartphone's update to Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread is very close to hitting the airwaves. According to people in the know, the Gingerbread build for the Motorola ATRIX 4G has been almost finalized and should become available over-the-air by the end of July.

Besides all the goodies that Gingerbread itself will bring to the ATRIX 4G, we expect seeing a number of further improvements, among which an overall performance boost and a handful of tweaks to the user interface of the device. For example, it is said that the on-screen keyboard is getting redesigned and the camera software is also getting polished. Besides that, users will be able to sideload apps onto their ATRIX 4G, and to make their home screens less cluttered, the ability to arrange program icons in groups will be added to the UI.
