Verizon's CFO Fran Shammo spilled some of Apple's plans at the Reuters Technology Summit. Much like the "global device" slip of the tongue on the earnings call he produced, now he said that the next iPhone, which is likely to be introduced in September, will work in as many countries as AT&T's phones work.
This can only mean one thing, that Apple's next phone will sport a dual-mode GSM/CDMA radio, from the likes produced by Qualcomm. What it also means is that the iPhone 4S or 5, or whatever it gets named, will be introduced for both Verizon and AT&T at the same time.
As for an LTE version of the Apple iPhone, Mr Shammo says literally "I think it's a bigger issue for Apple than it is for us. Depending on where Apple plays, that's where we'll sell." With most analyst doubtful that the next iPhone will have LTE connectivity, be it because Qualcomm can't produce enough LTE chips to go into a handset with the sales volumes of the iPhone, or because Apple is just waiting it out, the chances for an LTE-capable iPhone this year are pretty slim.
