Nokia has been making headlines today and it is not only because the Finns are hosting a company event in London. Fresh out of the manufacturer's kitchen came out the Nokia X7 smartphone, which has been built from the ground up to be a mobile entertainment powerhouse that fits in your pocket. The handset boasts a 4-inch AMOLED touchscreen with a 360x640 display resolution and an 8-megapixel fixed focus camera capable of shooting 720p HD video.
In terms of hardware, the Nokia X7 clocks in at the respectable 146 grams, which is a decent weight considering the dimensions of the handset. The 1300 mAh battery promises up to 6 hours and thirty minutes of talk time on a 2G network and two hours less on a 3G one respectively. The smartphone's HSDPA radio supports theoretical downlink speeds of about 10.2 Mbps, which is in par with today's mobile 3G standards.
However, the most important feature about the X7 is that it is going to be one of the first two devices on Nokia's portfolio to come with Symbian Anna, with the business-oriented Nokia E6 being the other. Symbian Anna is the updated version of Nokia's mobile platform and promises to deliver a much better web browsing experience along with an enhanced on-screen keyboard. OVI Maps, Nokia's mobile navigation software, has also been treated to several improvements, among which faster searching and the addition of new public transportation routes.
The Nokia X7 should be available in the second quarter of 2011 and will probably cost around $550 before taxes.
