While iTunes has a 95% market share among teenagers, ironically, a majority of teens act as though downloading music is a constitutional right and refuse to pay for it. 77% of the youngsters download music while 65% use peer-to-peer networks music sharing networks as the source for their tunes.
Apple continues to be popular among teens with an 86% market share among portable media devices. That is up from 78% 6 months ago. 80% of teens own a portable media player, the lowest reading since 2007. This indicates that more teenagers are buying the iPhone for the built-in iPod. Microsoft's Zune and Sony tied for second in market share, each with 3% of the market.
Finally, teens are beginning to get interested in tablets. 22% of them have one, or live in a household that owns a tablet. 20% expect to purchase one in the next 6 months.
