New Delhi, March 9: It continues to rain records for Indian batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar these days. The Little Master has reached yet another milestone - crossing 2,000 World Cup runs and thus becoming the first man in the history of the game to do so.
Tendulkar reached the landmark during Wednesday's game against the Netherlands, and what more emphatic a way to achieve the feat than by bringing it up with three consecutive fours off Dutch seamer Ryan ten Doeschate.Tendulkar came into this world cup with 1,796 World Cup runs under his belt, from 5 editions of the event. In his time in the present World Cup, he has notched up scores of 28, 120, 38 and 27. One may imagine that he is yet to find his groove in the tournament which could well be his World Cup swan-song. No, doubt he will want to sign off with a bang.
Tendulkar showed flashes of his blistering earlier self in the match against the Netherlands. He put on a blazing 69 for the first wicket with Virender Sehwag, which came off just 7.1 overs. Indian then lost four wickets in a huddle and Yuvraj Singh, Gautam Gambhir and M S Dhoni had to labour their way home. India's next two matches are against South Africa on March 12 and the West Indies on March 20.
