Sure it's one of the longest-standing Android smartphones on the market, but we’ve already seen the HTC Desire get one major software update that brought it from its initial Éclair days to its current Froyo standing. However, sad news has befallen the once mighty handset as it appears as though it’s at the end of the line in terms of major software updates.
Taking a gander over at HTC UK’s Facebook page, the company says that Android 2.3 Gingerbread is not coming to the handset – even though it was mentioned as being one of many handsets positioned to get the update. The heart felt announcement mentions that the engineering team has been hard at work making it come to life over the course of the last few months, but it seems that the handset’s lack of memory is compromising the Sense experience on the handset – meaning, it’s going to live out its life with Froyo and nothing more.
Indeed a bummer for many handset owners out there, but don’t fret, mainly because there are still alternative ways to experience Gingerbread – like installing the leaked 2.3.3 ROM for it.
