Qualcomm to cash in on mobile gamers with its Snapdragon Game Pack

Qualcomm to cash in on mobile gamers with its Snapdragon Game Pack

The mobile gaming community is growing by the hour, and it looks like Qualcomm is planning on taking major advantage of that. This is what became clear yesterday when the company announced its Snapdragon Game Pack – a set of over 100 Snapdragon-optimized video games, with plans of boosting this figure even further by adding additional titles in the future.

However, Qualcomm's move may also be interpreted as a take on Nvidia's Tegra 2 chipset, which right now is arguably the best silicon to have in your handset if gaming is a priority for you. If Qualcomm is to dethrone Nvidia's dual-core chip, it wouldn't be surprising to see an installment of a Tegra Zone alternative promoting Snapdragon-optimized games in the near future. Nvidia successfully beat Qualcomm to releasing a dual-core chipset to the smartphone market, so launching the Snapdragon Game Pack may very well be an attempt for Qualcomm to catch up and raise the popularity of its latest chips.

Many video game studios, among which Glu, NAMCO BANDAI, Gameloft, and Tripwire Interactive, have already agreed to partner up with Qualcomm in delivering console-quality titles developed with the Snapdragon hardware platform in mind. Having seen the graphical performance of the MSM8*60 family of chipsets and the number of hot titles from the said game developers, we are not expecting anything less of fun and great looking games to populate the Snapdragon Game Pack's portfolio pretty soon.
