A popular Philippine television game show host and his network have apologized after an uproar over a segment showing a 6-year-old contestant crying while gyrating and mimicking a striptease dancer.
Social Welfare Secretary Corazon Soliman has condemned "the emotional abuse and humiliation" suffered by the boy on the show "Willing Willie." She says host Willie Revillame and the audience showed no concern for the boy and the program violated a law against child abuse.
It's not clear if Revillame and TV5 will face charges.
TV5 apologized Tuesday on behalf of Revillame and the station. It said there was no intention to humiliate the boy, who was accompanied by his aunt who approved his March 12 performance.
