Samsung has announced two new Galaxy Tabs - coming in 8.9-inch and 10.1-inch flavors.
So, what’s cool about these new tablets, and what makes them the first real threat to the dominance of the iPad?
Well, first off, they’re thinner and lighter than the iPad 2. They’re both 8.6mm thin and weigh 595g for the 10.1 and 470g for the 8.9. Then there’s the 1GHz dual-core processor powering the Android 3.0 ‘Honeycomb’ OS which should be pretty sweet.
But there’s more in the form of dual cameras (3 megapixel on the rear, 2 megapixel on the front), connectivity via 802.11a/b/n and Bluetooth. There’s also HSPA+ support. The screen offers up a resolution of 1280×800.
Battery capacity is also very good - 6000mAh for the 8.9-inch version and 6800mAh for the 10.1-inch version.
Both tablets will be available in 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB capacities.
We don’t have official word on the pricing, but rumor has it that 16GB 10.1-inch WiFi version will be $499 while the 32GB model will be $100 more. The 16GB 8.9-inch WiFi version will allegedly cost $469 with the 32GB model again being $100 more.
